Local Top 20 players!

April 26th, 2010 at 02:59 pm (CST) by Jeff

Using Tournament Tracker for the Tournaments¬† this year, we’ve figured the top 20 players for Wichita Falls’ local gaming community (and our regularly visiting Okies).

Currently Brent from Strictly Average is #1 here with his Chaos Daemons army.

Edit: I removed January’s tournament due to the actual match-ups weren’t correct (it was an import of a manually-ran game). The numbers were correct, but the people played were not. The updated results are slightly different.

Last Saturday’s Tournament Results (and informal announcement of Tournament-Tracker.NET)

February 26th, 2010 at 02:58 pm (CST) by Jeff

Ok a little bragging here.

Last Saturday was the first time I’ve played Craftworld Eldar since 4th edition and I placed 5th! I’m actually pretty pleased with the results, as my old, perfectionist style of playing Eldar-annoyingly enough-terrorized my opponents (enough to get one couple cussin’ how much he hates Eldar ;) ). My last game was probably my best played game, but it was completely in vain. Brent just couldn’t fail a save the last 3 rounds (I believe he only lost 3-4 models in the last 3 rounds, and I wasn’t short on firepower). Needless to say he was worried the first 3 rounds.

A little word about Tournament-Tracker.NET: this is an online tournament tracking solution that I’ve whipped up in the last few weeks. It’s still in Alpha status, but it performed brilliantly in last week’s tournament for our Administrator. I’m not accepting new public users yet, but I’ll be happy to set up a Tournament-Administrator account if you wish to test the software.

Eventually–when it’s well out of Beta (probably 4-6 months once beta has been removed) –I’ll be charging per tournament. The good news is that at this point it’s going to be a minimal charge: US$5/tournament (which can easily be taken from entry fees). I think this is a pretty fair price for handling all the heavy lifting and keeping permanent records of your tournaments (plus all your player’s tournament stats). Just contact me if you’re interested in trying it out as a tournament-administrator.

You may keep up with the development status of the web application at the development status page.

In time (during beta) I’ll post some YouTube/Vimeo videos of how to use the software, plus put the documentation of how to run a tournament in HTML form as well, although it’s fairly self-explanatory.

Updated Cities of Death List

February 18th, 2009 at 04:10 pm (CST) by Jeff

I’ve started work on the newer style painting of the Gauths, however there is no chance I’ll complete the painting by Friday–although I intend to try to have at least my infantry base coated–it’s difficult to do with new social priorities :)

I must say my new formula, albeit simple, is quite effective. I absolutely adore the new Citadel washes–especially Delvan Mud which is the wash I’m using for the Gauths.

The simple base coat I’m using is:

  • Foundation Paint Codex Grey for the base
  • Foundation Paint Mechrite Red (or graveyard earth for leathers) for accessories
  • Boltgun Metal for the metal bits
  • Washing the whole model with Delvan Mud

I’ll try to get a picture of the a base test model soon.

About the upcoming 1250 Cities of Death tournament on Saturday
I’ll be running:

It’s been a while since my last post

January 19th, 2009 at 08:00 pm (CST) by Jeff

It’s been quite a bit since my last post but I wanted to give a painting update: I’ve not done a darn thing since I’ve stripped the paint off the test models.

However, we have a local 1250 Cities of Death tournament that we’re having on February 21, 2009 that I intend to have the force painted. Although it will only get about 1/4th of my infantry models painted, it’ll get almost all of my vehicles painted.

Here’s the list of models I intend on taking:

  • 1 Command Platoon with a Jr. Officer (1 las cannon 3 grenade launchers)
  • 1 Infantry Platoon (1 Jr officer squad las cannon 3 grenade launchers, 2 infantry squads with 1 lascannon and 1 grenade launcher each)
  • 1 Armored fist squad (with vet sgt & flamer)
  • 2 Hellhounds
  • 1 Leman Russ Demolisher
  • 1 Basilisk (with a converted armored crew compartment)
  • 3 Sentinels with Heavy Flamers

It’s very troop choice limited, however I’m counting on the 4 scoring units (of the two troop choices) to help me there. I know that as a Guard player (and Tau), I’m at a disadvantage in close-quarter fighting in Cities of Death in comparison to other armies such as Orks & Tyranids, so I don’t feel too terrible about such a low troop choice count right now, although that may change once I start playtesting.

So that’s 4 larger vehicles, 3 smaller vehicles (sentinels) and 45 infantry models to paint in a month…. lots of work–especially since I’ve not figured out what I want to do to make my vehicles more unique to my army.
